2027 in BaZi: Li Chun, not New Year’s Day
Quick answer: The 2027 BaZi year begins at Li Chun (立春), when the Sun reaches ecliptic longitude 315° — 01:46 UTC on Thursday 4 February 2027 (09:46 in Beijing / Hong Kong). In US time zones that instant is still Wednesday evening, 3 February 2027. The year pillar becomes 丁未 Ding-Wei (Yin Fire Goat). Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 6 February, so births between Li Chun and New Year are already Goat in BaZi while some lunar-zodiac sites still say Horse. This page is a calendar fact page. It does not forecast what 2027 "will bring" anyone.
Broader rule: Li Chun vs Chinese New Year. Engine year rule: methodology § year.
The instant, by zone
Hong Kong Observatory publishes Li Chun 2027 as 09:46 Hong Kong time on 4 February 2027 (UTC+8). Our engine places the same minute at 01:46:24 UTC, agreeing to the published minute.
| Place / zone | Local date and time of Li Chun 2027 |
|---|---|
| UTC | Thu 4 Feb 2027, 01:46 |
| Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei (UTC+8) | Thu 4 Feb 2027, 09:46 |
| London (GMT, UTC+0) | Thu 4 Feb 2027, 01:46 |
| New York (EST, UTC−5) | Wed 3 Feb 2027, 20:46 |
| Chicago (CST, UTC−6) | Wed 3 Feb 2027, 19:46 |
| Los Angeles (PST, UTC−8) | Wed 3 Feb 2027, 17:46 |
For anyone in the Americas, the BaZi year label "2027 Goat" begins on the evening of 3 February, local time — not on New Year's fireworks night, and not on the lunar New Year holiday.
What the pillars do at that instant
At Li Chun, year and month both advance:
| Side of Li Chun | Year pillar | Month pillar |
|---|---|---|
| Before | 丙午 Bing-Wu (Yang Fire Horse) | 辛丑 Xin-Chou |
| After | 丁未 Ding-Wei (Yin Fire Goat) | 壬寅 Ren-Yin |
Engine examples (open on the live chart):
| Birth (local) | Year | Month | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beijing, 4 Feb 2027, 09:30 | Bing-Wu | Xin-Chou | 16 minutes before Li Chun |
| Beijing, 4 Feb 2027, 10:00 | Ding-Wei | Ren-Yin | after Li Chun |
| New York, 3 Feb 2027, 20:30 | Bing-Wu | Xin-Chou | before 20:46 EST |
| New York, 3 Feb 2027, 21:00 | Ding-Wei | Ren-Yin | after |

The Day Master comes from the day pillar, so Li Chun does not rename the Day Master. It can still change how strong that Day Master is judged to be, because the month branch (season) flips to Tiger (寅), which carries Jia wood as main qi. In the Beijing pair above, a Jia Day Master moves from weak 25% at 09:30 to balanced 45% at 10:00 under our point method — worked arithmetic on methodology § strength.
Li Chun 2027 vs Chinese New Year 2027
Chinese New Year (first day of the first lunar month) is 6 February 2027 per the Hong Kong Observatory calendar. Gap sketch:
| Born between… | BaZi year (Li Chun) | Year if switched at Chinese New Year |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Jan 2027 → Li Chun (4 Feb 01:46 UTC) | Bing-Wu Horse | Horse |
| Li Chun → 5 Feb 2027 | Ding-Wei Goat | Horse |
| 6 Feb 2027 onward | Ding-Wei Goat | Goat |
Neither convention is "arithmetic wrong"; they answer different questions. This site always uses Li Chun for BaZi. We do not offer a Chinese New Year year switch. Popular animal-year widgets often use the lunar new year; that is why the same civil birthday can show Horse on one site and Goat on another in early February 2027.
Ding-Wei as a year pillar label (structure only)
丁未 pairs:
- Stem 丁 Ding — Yin Fire
- Branch 未 Wei — Goat; Earth branch whose hidden stems (our table) are 己 Ji, 丁 Ding, 乙 Yi
That is vocabulary for reading a year pillar on a natal or annual chart, not a forecast. We do not publish "Fire Goat year means X for careers" essays. If you are learning how year stems are labelled from a Day Master, use the Ten Gods relation table after you know your day stem. If you are learning decade steps rather than the calendar year change, use luck pillars.
Boundary births in early February 2027
If the birth is within about two hours of Li Chun, the chart shows a boundary warning with minutes before/after. Checklist:
- Prefer a hospital or certificate time over a rounded family memory.
- Confirm time zone and daylight-saving status (US February is standard time in 2027 under current rules; still verify historically for other years).
- Read true solar time if the hour pillar also matters — TST rarely moves a birth across Li Chun by itself, but the receipt still proves the UTC instant you used.
- Compare any other site's year label against the table above before assuming a bug.
How this page relates to reports
Educational calendar pages stay free. Paid report SKUs (see pricing and the sample report) may include annual-structure chapters that describe the year pillar relative to a natal Day Master. Those chapters still must not invent personal events. This 2027 page only fixes when the year pillar changes.
Multi-year Li Chun table (context)
Li Chun times 2020–2028 (UTC), from the same Observatory series used on the Li Chun hub:
| Year | Li Chun (UTC) | BaZi year that begins |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 4 Feb, 09:03 | Geng-Zi |
| 2021 | 3 Feb, 14:59 | Xin-Chou |
| 2022 | 3 Feb, 20:51 | Ren-Yin |
| 2023 | 4 Feb, 02:43 | Gui-Mao |
| 2024 | 4 Feb, 08:27 | Jia-Chen |
| 2025 | 3 Feb, 14:10 | Yi-Si |
| 2026 | 3 Feb, 20:02 | Bing-Wu |
| 2027 | 4 Feb, 01:46 | Ding-Wei |
| 2028 | 4 Feb, 07:31 | Wu-Shen |

Why English searchers hit this page
People search "2027 Goat year" for lunar-zodiac lists, pregnancy planning calendars and BaZi annual reads. We answer the BaZi timing question only. If you need the festival date for travel or family reunion, use the lunar New Year (6 February 2027). If you need the BaZi year pillar for a chart, use Li Chun (3–4 February 2027 depending on zone).
Ding-Wei next to Bing-Wu (sequence literacy)
The sexagenary cycle moves Bing-Wu → Ding-Wei → Wu-Shen → … so 2027's Ding-Wei is simply the successor of 2026's Bing-Wu at Li Chun — not a symbolic "story arc" invented for marketing. Reading annual pillars relative to a Day Master uses the same Ten Gods relation math as natal stems. Learning that math on natal charts first (via Learn) beats collecting year-animal essays.
Teachers who use Chinese New Year on purpose
Some popular teachers deliberately switch animal years at the lunar new year for cultural celebration contexts. That can be coherent as festival pedagogy and still be the wrong switch for Ziping pillars. Our engine will not follow them for year pillars. When a class and this site disagree in the Li Chun–CNY gap, compare stated conventions before comparing "accuracy".
Reports and annual SKUs (non-promising language)
If an Annual or Complete report mentions 2027, it should cite the Ding-Wei pillar as structure relative to the natal chart — the same way the free chart labels any year stem. It must not claim knowledge of events in your 2027. Sample layout: sample report. Pricing entry: pricing.
When does the 2027 BaZi Goat year start in New York?
20:46 EST on Wednesday 3 February 2027 (Li Chun = 01:46 UTC 4 February).
I was born on 4 or 5 February 2027. Am I Horse or Goat in BaZi?
After Li Chun → Ding-Wei Goat. Before Li Chun → Bing-Wu Horse. On 5 February 2027 you are already Goat in BaZi even though Chinese New Year is still the next day. Calculate the chart for the exact minute.
Does Li Chun 2027 change my Day Master?
No. It changes year and month pillars. Strength scores that depend on the month branch can move; the day stem does not.
Is this the same as the Spring Festival holiday?
No. Spring Festival follows the lunar calendar (New Year's Day 6 February 2027). BaZi year change is the solar term Li Chun.
Where do luck pillars fit?
Luck pillars are decade steps from the natal month pillar and gender; they are not the same as the 2027 annual year pillar. See How luck pillars work.
Americas vs East Asia date labels
Because Li Chun 2027 is 01:46 UTC on 4 February, East Asian calendars print 4 February while US zones still show 3 February local. Both describe the same instant. When a forum argues "Li Chun is 3 Feb" vs "4 Feb", ask for the time zone before treating it as a factual conflict. Our table above lists both.
Next step: If your question is a birth near early February 2027, cast the chart and read the Li Chun boundary warning on the receipt. If your question is "what is a BaZi year", start from the Li Chun guide.
